Ferrari and SK On Unite to Innovate in Battery Cell Technology for the Future of Luxury Automobiles

Ferrari and SK On Collaborate to Revolutionize Battery Technology

Ferrari S.p.A., the renowned Italian luxury sports car manufacturer, has joined forces with SK On Co., a leading electric vehicle battery producer, to collaborate on cell technology innovation. The partnership aims to further enhance battery cell technology as Ferrari prepares to launch its first fully electric vehicle next year. On Tuesday, the two companies signed a memorandum of understanding to demonstrate their commitment to sharing expertise and increasing cooperation in leading global battery cell technology advancements.

Recently, reports have emerged that Ferrari plans to introduce its first electric vehicle in the final quarter of 2025. In order to support this launch, a new plant in Maranello, Italy will open in June to produce electric motors, battery packs, and power inverters. Ferrari is targeting about 60% of its lineup to be split between fully electric and hybrid cars by 2026. This strategic partnership with SK On is a crucial step towards achieving this goal.

SK On has been providing cells for Ferrari’s plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) since 2019. Models such as the SF90 Stradale, SF90 Spider, 296 GTB, and 296 GTS are all equipped with batteries supplied by SK On. Even limited-edition models like the SF90 XX Stradale and SF90 XX Spider from last year are equipped with batteries provided by SK On. This collaboration solidifies SK On’s position as Ferrari’s primary battery supplier for electric vehicles, further strengthening their relationship and paving the way for a more sustainable future in automotive technology.
