Jordan Montgomery Joins Arizona Diamondbacks to Boost Pitching Staff

Diamondbacks sign one-year contract with left-handed pitcher Jordan Montgomery

The Arizona Diamondbacks have strengthened their pitching staff with the addition of veteran left-handed pitcher Jordan Montgomery. Montgomery agreed to a one-year contract worth up to $25 million, which includes a vesting option for 2025. Last season, Montgomery spent time with the St. Louis Cardinals and Texas Rangers, where he posted impressive records.

In his first 21 starts with the Cardinals, Montgomery recorded a 6-9 record with a 3.42 ERA. After being traded to the Rangers in July, he went on to post an impressive 4-2 record with a 2.79 ERA over his final 11 starts. Montgomery played a crucial role in helping the Rangers win their first World Series title by going 3-1 in the postseason.

With his career ERA of 3.68 and a record of 38-34 over 141 appearances, Montgomery brings valuable experience to the Diamondbacks’ pitching staff. He made his MLB debut in 2017 with the New York Yankees before joining the Cardinals in 2022.

Montgomery will join an already strong rotation that features pitchers like Zac Gallen, Merrill Kelly, Tommy Henry, Brandon Pfaadt, and Ryne Nelson as they prepare for their season opener against the Colorado Rockies in Phoenix on Thursday.
