Predicting 2024 Baseball Postseason: The West Coast Teams Rule the Game

Our model predicts the winner, playoff odds, and win-loss records for the 2024 World Series champion

After running 100,000 simulations for the 2024 baseball season through our model, we predicted that the Houston Astros and Los Angeles Dodgers would face off in a World Series showdown. The west coast teams dominated both the American League (AL) and National League (NL) playoffs, with six teams qualifying for the postseason.

In the AL, the AL East was projected to have the Boston Red Sox take the top spot, followed closely by the New York Yankees and Toronto Blue Jays. The AL Central was led by the Chicago White Sox, with Cleveland Guardians and Kansas City Royals also making it to the playoffs. The AL West was expected to be dominated by the Houston Astros, with Los Angeles Angels and Oakland Athletics joining them in the postseason.

On the NL side, the NL East was forecasted to be won by Atlanta Braves, with Philadelphia Phillies and New York Mets also making it to the playoffs. The NL Central was projected to see Milwaukee Brewers on top, followed by St. Louis Cardinals and Cincinnati Reds. The NL West was expected to have Los Angeles Dodgers as division winners, with San Francisco Giants and San Diego Padres also earning playoff spots.

The simulations showed that in addition to Houston Astros and Los Angeles Dodgers from west coast teams were expected to represent AL and NL respectively. Ultimately, our predictions came true when our simulations indicated that Los Angeles Dodgers would defeat Houston Astros in a thrilling World Series matchup.
